Shaped from clouds, given breath

AS THE ELDERS TELL IT — THE FIRST SHEEP

In Diné tradition the Holy People made the first sheep — a body molded from clouds, bones of straight willow, horns and hooves shaped from a rainbow, a face of dawn, eyes of rock crystal, ears made from tobacco — then breathed life into them. Those first sheep are the Navajo-Churro, the breed this camp still raises today.

OUR MISSION

The Kady Youth Sheep Camp Apprenticeship carries the heartbeat of our ancestors — a path of returning to the lifeways of sheep, our gentle teachers of patience, balance, and care.
